We spent two nights in downtown Atlanta and one night in Lake Lanier Islands for our friend Holly's wedding......just the two of us.
We left late Thursday evening and headed straight for ATL.
We enjoyed the sights of downtown Atlanta.
The aquarium was great!
I ordered and printed the tickets at home before we left so we were able to I walk right on in. I would highly recommend purchasing your tickets before you go, rather than waiting in the ridiculously long line.
For one, that shark was HUGE!!!!! This window was about the size of a movie theatre screen and it was so gorgeous. Adam and I just stood there and watched the fish swim by.
Adam "pet" the stingrays......I couldn't get the nerve up to touch them. :)
Walking out of the aquarium, I talked to Beth and she recommended we tour The World of Coca-Cola.
Adam and I LOVED this tour!!
They had an awesome 4D ride. We laughed hysterically the entire ride.
It was the kind that had wind, water, and moving seats. It was a trip!
Coca-Cola Santas
This was a blast.
My favorite was a green apple soda from China and Adam loved a soda from Tanzania.
Some of the drinks were so sweet that they tasted like the gestational diabetes drink! :) Some tasted more like water and weren't even carbonated.
We definitely got our sugar fix for the entire month!
For dinner Friday night, we headed to Fox Brothers BBQ.
Oh my goodness. This BBQ was the best that Adam and I have ever tasted.
Beth recommended it and we are so glad that she did!
The restaurant was right on the train tracks and was filled with locals.
Saturday, we checked out of our hotel room and headed for Ikea. I've dreamed of shopping at Ikea for a long time. I came prepared with a shopping list in hand, as not to be too overwhelmed in this 366,000 square foot store!!
Holly and Brad look so happy together.
Beautiful Hydrangeas
I love these girls. It was so wonderful to spend time with them. Adam enjoyed their company just as much as I did.....he was able to roll with our craziness and fit right in. I was a proud wife.
We were told that the band did not take requests, but Adam yelled out "OLD CROW!" and minutes later, they were playing Wagon Wheel.....that's all the motivation we needed to head out to the dance floor.
My favorite was Vanilla Coke.
I wonder if the shirts still smell after you wash them?

We were probably the only tourists and that's the way we like it.
Everything was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

It was everything I dreamed of and more. I wish I could have spent eight more hours browsing, but Adam was hungry and I didn't want to press my luck. He was very well behaved and didn't complain at all! We got some great things including a kids table and chairs for Camp's birthday....shhh don't tell! :)
We could both take it or leave it......it was a little too crowded and noisy.
After lunch we headed north towards Lake Lanier.
We stopped off at Bass Pro Shops so Adam could do a little shopping as well.

Hey, it's only fair!! I do love a good Bass Pro Shops though.
And their restrooms meet all of my criteria:
1. seat covers
2. foaming hand soap
3. real paper towels ( I can't stand hand dryers!)
About fifteen minutes outside of Lake Lanier Islands, we get a call from Beth saying that our friend Lauren forgot her bridesmaids dress in Beth's car, at Holly's house.......and because Adam and I are so nice, we said we'd go and get it. :)
We met Lauren at the entrance of the Lodge to get Beth's keys and then headed south to Holly's house to get the dress. She lives close to the lodge, but traffic was terrible and we didn't make it back until an hour later. Just in time for pictures, thank goodness!
After all of the excitement, Adam and I finally checked into our wonderful room. It was so extremely nice and cozy. We were able to rest and watch some TV before having to get ready for the wedding.
street sign on the way back to the lodge.....too cute.
The wedding venue was breathtaking.
Right on Lake Lanier.
I loved her dress.....very timeless.

L to R (Heather, Lane, Amber, Beth)
We were told that the band did not take requests, but Adam yelled out "OLD CROW!" and minutes later, they were playing Wagon Wheel.....that's all the motivation we needed to head out to the dance floor.
And I love that he's not too cool to dance.
We even slow danced too.....brought me back to 11th grade homecoming. :)
We had such a great time. After the dance floor, we gathered around a table with several friends from high school. Lots of laughs were had.
Adam became fast friends with Dan....the husband of my friend Kelli. Dan graduated the same year as we did, but went to a different high school.
We closed the wedding down, but weren't ready for the party to be over. So a group of us went back to our hotel room to hang out on our "veranda". We even hit up Waffle House at 2am!
It was the perfect weekend. It was so nice for me and Adam to get away.....to not have to worry about naptimes, bottles, and diapers.
I think it's so important for us to do stuff like this.
We missed the little buddy like crazy, but didn't worry about him one bit. My mom watched him and was soooooo good about sending texts and picture messages to inform us on what Camp was up to.
On the drive back to Tallahassee yesterday, Adam and I reminisced and laughed about the entire weekend.
Thank you Brad and Holly for getting married and giving us the excuse to plan a weekend getaway!
And extra thanks to Mama Byrd & Chandler for taking such great care of the Camper!!!

what a fabulous weekend!! but what really hit close to heart was the Coca Cola museum....and that evil fountain of around the world cokes. I once tasted every single flavor and almost got very sick...part of the reason the only coke I drink nowadays is Diet :)
Wow...love all the pictures and explanations!!
I feel like I was there. Camp was glad that his Mama and Daddy were able to go away and have such fun!
And Mama Byrd was glad that Camp was such a happy, sweet boy :)
Looks like you had a great weekend. I have already told Micah we need to visit Atlanta and we have to eat that BBQ and mac n cheese!
Lane and Adam, thank you again for driving to Holly's to pick up my bridesmaid dress...you two are lifesavers! It was great to see you this weekend--glad you could make it up to Atlanta:)
ooooh this makes me want to go to a wedding! and i want that pork sandwich so bad.
Looks like ya'll had a great time! Makes me excited for our trip this weekend. We might have to copy some of your places! :)
OK- so many comments.
Love dancing at weddings. Y'all look so cute.
And we haven't been to the aquarium yet, but are dying to go. I think O would LOVE it. We will definitely print tickets beforehand. GREAT tip!
We have been to the Coke museum many times and the best is the tastin room at the end! So glad y'all had fun there! Isn't it weird that different countries have such different tastes?
And the bride and wedding were beautiful!! Everything was lovely.
How much fun to getaway like that. So nice to do.
Lane, what fun pictures. My fave, perhaps, is the last one ... when the lady on your immediate left is getting dowwwnnnn ;) xo
